NRC
NRC (Norwegian Refugee Council).
The Norwegian Refugee Council is an independent humanitarian organisation which helps people who have been forced to flee from their homes.
NRC has been on the ground in Afghanistan since 2003, as the country struggles to rebuild after decades of armed conflict and recurrent climate disasters – helping displaced families survive and rebuild their lives. In 2019 alone, close to 400,000 people were internally displaced by the ongoing conflict, and an additional quarter of a million were displaced by drought. NRC provides immediate life-saving assistance in the immediate aftermath of displacement, as well as longer-term programmes that seek to bring lasting solutions. In particular, NRC’s livelihoods programmes help displaced families establish new income sources in their place of displacement, or re-establish livelihoods once they return home.
ISHKAR has been partnering with NRC on these livelihoods initiatives, by designing and sourcing kilims and waistcoats made by internally displaced women in Kabul and Badghis provinces.
