Connecting Landscapes
The Connecting Landscapes collection is a celebration of the bond between ISHKAR and the artisans we work with across Afghanistan. Comprising six flatweave rugs, the collection draws inspiration from the landscapes that surround and inspire us respectively: three designs draw from Afghanistan's dramatic mountains, valleys and open plains; three from the rolling countryside and coastlines of Britain.
Handwoven in Afghanistan, the collection honours both the people behind each piece and the environments that influence their craft. Connecting Landscapes is a tribute to shared creativity, celebrated through the landscapes we call home.

The entire process of creating all of our hand-knotted and flatweave rugs - from sourcing the wool, to spinning and dyeing, through to the weaving, finishing and binding - is done in Afghanistan, where ISHKAR first began.
Where it all started
Our Story
ISHKAR was founded in Kabul in 2016. For the past decade we have worked with exceptional artisans in places which have often been overlooked. Over time, we have come to specialise in rugs from Afghanistan. It is our strongly held view that today Afghanistan produces the world’s finest rugs owing to the unique skills of its weavers, and their access to exceptional natural wool, silk and dyes.
While our online focus is exclusively on rugs and fabrics, we sell a variety of exquisite crafts in our London store (Columbia Road) and through quarterly online drops of jewellery.
